How to Care for Your Cookware and Dinnerware

Protect nonstick coatings

Nonstick pans last far longer with gentle treatment: use wooden or silicone utensils, avoid metal scrapers, and wash by hand with a soft sponge. Don't overheat empty nonstick pans, and avoid harsh scrubbers that scratch the surface.

Keep stainless steel shining

For stuck-on food, soak before scrubbing rather than scratching. To remove water spots and restore shine, a little baking soda or a stainless-steel cleaner works well. Dry after washing to prevent watermarks.

Season and protect cast iron

Cast iron should be hand-washed, dried immediately, and lightly oiled to prevent rust. Avoid soaking it or leaving it wet. Done right, it gets better with age.

Handle dinnerware gently

  • Stack plates with care; felt or cloth separators prevent scratches on fine sets.
  • Check microwave and dishwasher safety before using either.
  • Avoid sudden temperature changes with ceramic and glass — they can crack.

Mind humidity and storage

Dry everything fully before storing, especially in the monsoon, to prevent musty smells and rust on metal items. Store lids separately or inverted so cookware sits flat and undamaged.

Replace when needed

Retire nonstick pans once the coating is scratched or peeling, and chipped ceramic that can harbour bacteria. Caring well delays this — but safety comes first.
